​​~Returning Summer 2025!
  • Join us to talk about the LA River history of disaster, the poor choices our leaders made in their attempt to rebuild, a hopeful future that we are all pushing to regrow out city around it.
  • And most importantly, how we can use all this to inform and advocate for better decision making in the aftermath of the LA Fires.

FIVE Senses Plant ID Walk + Foraging
​​~Returning Summer 2025!​​
  • This is not your typical plant identification experience! Let's connect to nature like a true naturalist, using all 5 senses - sight, sound, scent, and yes touch and taste (foraging is back baby)!
  • I will give you all the tools you need to get to know the wild plants and animals—both native and non—that populate our local environment.
  • This also includes an introduction to nature journaling so you can continue your exploration long after the hike.

Full Moon Night Walk
  • It's that summer camp night program you wished you had as a kid!
  • Explore our local SoCal environment at night, learning about bats, night blooming flowers, owls, night herons, and other nocturnal creatures with fun activities and stories. All at the LA River, one of LA's primary bat habitats
  • This a no flashlight hike, but the nearly full moon will rise early enough to provide us with ample light on this wide and mostly flat Griffith Park trail.​

Eat the Weeds! Invasive Plant Foraging Walk
  • In this workshop and walk we will learn about both the native and invasive plants growing throughout Elysian Park, learn to identify those that are edible, gather various invasive plants along the way, and at the end put them all together to enjoy a wild, foraged, hyper-locally-sourced salad.
  • All participants receive a link to my SoCal Edible Invasive Plant ID and Recipe Guide. This will help you to continue your foraging skills long after our walk together.​​

Curse of Griffith Park Hike
Well that was spooky fun... see you in October 2025!

  • Join me to learn about the spooky history of Griffith Park that goes back to before it was even called Griffith. The Rancho Los Feliz land has a storied history of a curse, disaster, murder, and more than enough mayhem to uncover on this easy 2 mile/300ft elevation change walk.​
  • All are welcome, including dogs!

  • Stay tuned for our next event for the Spring Equinox.
  • The world and all its unknowns can so easily become a source of anxiety. The future of our government, our rights, and our planet are hanging in the balance.
  • But we can't advocate to make it better if our body and minds are exhausted.

Holiday Nature Walk + Crafting Party
~ See you in December 2025!
  • Explore and celebrate nature and our local native plants in the winter time.
  • Together, we will gather mistletoe to craft your own festive decoration, learn about the native plant Toyon (aka “California holly” or “Christmas berry”), and create holiday ornaments from pine cones and acorns, while enjoying the warmth of delicious cider.
  • Combines a cozy 1-mile hike, nature-inspired crafting, foraging and making cider, and a sense of community.

Fall LA River Walk w/ Theodore Payne Foundation
Los Angeles River 
  • All ages.
  • Join us as we explore one of the few "soft bottom" areas of the River, learning about the balance indigenous people had with the river, how colonizers attempted to tame it, the signs of both we are able to observe today, and the potential for a new beautiful future where the nature and people are both able to thrive around LA's secret gem of wilderness.
  • ​There are numerous deciduous native trees in this section of the River that will *hopefully* give us some beautiful fall colors.

LA River Exploration w/ Hawks Kids LA
Los Angeles River 
  • Ages 5-13.
  • Running through the middle of Los Angeles is the LA River, a habitat that hosts a surprising amount of biodiversity. 
  • On this hike, we will explore the flora and fauna that calls the LA River home, getting up close and personal with this river ecosystem with a nature walk, games, and science experiments.
  • Hike in partnership with HawksLA.

  • Let's leave it better than we found it at one of LA's most popular beaches!
  • At the end of the clean up I'll be giving a talk specifically on ocean queer ecology, so even if you've been on one my queer ecology walks in the past this will be all new info!

Community Hike & Trail Clean Up
Elysian Park
  • All are welcome, including dogs!
  • Join @HikingWithSun and @jasonjourneyman for a hike through Elysian Park. We'll pick up trash along the way to #KeepNatureWild.
  • We will take an easy trail through some heavily used areas that are need to a clean up, plus enjoy some of the best views in town of the San Gabriel Mountains, Dodger Stadium, and downtown LA.

Harvey said, "hope will never be silent" so we're going to get loud and proud at the Audubon Center Debs Park, caring for native plants and trees that fight climate change and provide vital habitat for our local ecosystem.

  • This hike is for 12-24 LGBTQ+ folks and allies.
  • Join Trailmixer, Camp Brave Trails, and myself for an easy hike along the Los Angeles River and down to the banks of the water to make bird and plant observations, learn about local ecological history, and discuss ecological practices and LGBTQIA+ culture of the indigenous people of the area, the Tongva/Kizh/Gabrieleño nation. ​
